What is a

CSA Program?

Community Supported Agriculture

A CSA is an exclusive membership program where participants receive shares of vegetables or meats during weekly/monthly pick ups. All produce and meats (except beef) are grown and raised on Dogwood Farms in Hillsborough, NJ.  The certified organic beef is raised in Pennsylvania at Sugar Hill Farm

WHAT MAKES their

CSA DIFFERENT?

Although boxed shares are convenient, their CSA is special because they allow members to come directly to the farm and choose produce and meats in a market style.  Farmers are always present at pick-ups to answer questions and offer cooking tips for items in shares.  Dogwood Farms is passionate about high quality food and has personal connection with everything in the share. This concept can't be found in a box or grocery store!

Most produce has been harvested the morning of pick-up making  vegetables fresh and clean of chemical pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or fertilizers.  Dogwood Farms'  meats are top quality and pasture raised without hormones or antibiotics. The difference can be tasted and enjoyed knowing that all animals were raised with care and compassion!

Our favorite weekly ritual is finding new recipes to cook using all of Dogwood Farms’ produce and meats. It’s been a joy to discover a whole new way to eat green and clean!

We are so fortunate to have this wonderful organic farm in our neighborhood. Great produce, meat, dairy, and more. And it is run by such nice people!

WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

A CSA can be risky because of factors that are out of the farmer's control. There are times when weather, pests, or disease can wreak havoc, thus some CSA crops may not succeed. This inevitably impacts what is offered in the share for the season.  To mitigate this risk they plant over 80 varieties of different vegetables and some fruits.  Please feel free to reach if there are questions about this aspect of a CSA membership program.

FAQ's

What if I can't

pick up every week?

CSA members will have one rain check share, which will be redeemable at the farm stand located at Duke Farms.  Please give 24 hours notice if you are unable to pick-up.

Can someone else

pick up for me?

Yes, just give their name in advance.

How much produce

are we talking about?

Weekly shares should be enough vegetables for 2-4 people, depending on their appetites.  If you cook at home at least 3-4 times a week, you will have no trouble eating it all.

If I think it will be too

much, can I get a

smaller share?

Dogwood Farms offers one size share. Families have the option to split shares with friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc.

Can I pick out my

own share?

Since the CSA is seasonal, Dogwood Farms only offers what is available during that time of year. However, there will always be alternative options if you are adverse to certain vegetables.
